Cultural Diversity Training

Event Location:
Tupper 2L7 (Halifax), Theatre 105 (Saint John)

 Hi Everyone!

Short: Cultural Diversity Training brought you by your friendly neighborhood Global Health
Advocate (GHA) and provided by our local Immigrant Integration and Settlement Services (ISIS).
Two sessions, up to 30 students per session, happening April 13th (Wednesday) and April 25th
(Monday) from 6-9. DMNB: I've booked Theatre 105 for the first session only so that you can
attend via teleconference!

Read long if interested and want to know more!

Long: Want to know more about cultural diversity and sensitivity? Are you craving for more
knowledge? If so, I have a wonderful opportunity for you all! ISIS (Immigrant Integration and
Settlement Services) has graciously offered their services to us med students free of charge to
give us a workshop on cultural diversity. It consists of an interactive presentation called
Contemporary Immigrant in Nova Scotia and moves on to some individual and small group
exercises from their workshop entitled '''Diversity I: Kaleidoscope- The Intercultural Experience'''.
It occurs over 3 hours (with a break of course!) and will be happening on 2 dates.

The first date will be Wednesday April 13th from 6-9 in Room 2L7 (here in Halifax) and
teleconferenced to Theatre 105 (in Saint John). This session is the only session I could book here
on the dal campus and therefore is the only one that can be teleconferenced to the DMNB.
Priority will be given to them for this date, however I can accommodate up to 30 students. The
second date will be Monday April 25th from 6-9. This session will be taking place at ISIS
(address 6960 Mumford Road, in the West End Mall) and again, 30 students may attend. I am
certain that many of us have vehicles and that car pooling should not be a problem. So,
unfortunately, unless you have a really good reason for not being able to attend one session or
the other, I will divide up the students into the sessions as you RSVP.

Please respond to this e-mail if you are interested in being a part of this great workshop! I will
give everyone until Thursday, April 7th to respond but please do so as soon as your able to.
After that, I will send out e-mails to the 2 groups of students who will be attending the
sessions to confirm that you will be attending, on what date and where!

If I receive an overwhelming response, I will let you know if you have not made the lists for
either session and will keep a wait list in case students drop out.

And one more note, although you are not getting any kind of credit or certificate for taking this
workshop (unless you really push and then maybe I can print off a cheesy one from the internet
to make you all happy!), the information and skills you will certainly be gaining from the
experience can always help '''beef''' up any resume!

Your truly,
Erica
