council responsibilities
Med I President
Responsibilities: 
  • Represent the Med I class at DMSS Meetings
  • Represent the Med I class at Progress Meetings
  • Organize and arrange social and academic events.

Med II President
Responsibilities: 
  • Addressing the questions and concerns of the class and bringing forth this information to the powers at be.
  • Representing the 2nd year class on various committees (DMSS, Med1/Med2 Curriculum, Progress, IMU/IMG, etc. 

Med III Class Co-Presidents
Responsibilities: 
  • Liaison between DMSS and third year class
  • Arrange selection of class awards to be presented at Medical Ball
  • Maintain and update Clerkship Survival Guide
  • Represent class on Progress Committee and Curriculum Committee

Med IV Class Co-Presidents
Responsibilities: 
  • Keep Med 4 class informed of DMSS activities and bring up class issues to the DMSS
  • Work with the UME to ensure an LMCC Review Course is being arranged and is updated for the current graduating class
  • With the grad reps, arrange a class vote for the selection of a class valedictorian, for the Silver Shovel Award at the Graduation Banquet to the recipient as chosen by the class and for the honorary member of the graduating class award
  • Serve as honorary Life Co-Presidents of the Class

DSU Representative
Responsibilities: 
  • Attends Dalhousie Student Union and Health Sciences Student Association meetings
  • Communicates between the DMSS and other Dalhousie student groups

Sports and Wellness Rep
Responsibilities: 
  • Organize Dal Med participation in fall and winter intramural sports
  • Organize our annual trip to Med Games in Quebec
  • Plan and host a variety of wellness events throughout the year, including sporting events and charity runs.

Responsibilities: 
  • Secondary representative of Med 1 Class
  • Responsible for lounge upkeep, art project, and storage room access
  
Global Health Liaisons
Responsibilities: 
  • To promote the presence of global health opportunities for health professional students. 
  • Actively work to promote awareness of health and human rights issues in Canada and around the globe. 
  • Actively support, liaise and communicate with like-minded medical school and community groups on a local, national, and global scale. 
  • Promote awareness and raise support for charities and projects through fundraising events.  

Humanities Representatives
Responsibilities: 
  • Coordinates Humanities events and exhibits
  • Organizes the Golden Cane Gala

Responsibilities: 
  • Assists the VP External
  • DMSS Representative to the Canadian Federation of Medical Students

NB External Liaison
Responsibilities:
  • Liaising between students and the provincial groups (i.e. between NBMS and the students in order to promote events, programs, and ensure distribution of stethoscopes and annual funds)
  • Shall be the DMSS liaison officer for any other external agency with whom the DMSS council may deem it appropriate.
  • Shall work with the CFMS Political Advocacy Committee representative on all lobbying and advocacy efforts in New Brunswick and nationally.

​DMNB Tech & Comm Rep
Responsibilities:
  • Shall be the main contact point for all communications of the DMSS members in New Brunswick.
  • Shall be responsible for updating and managing the New Brunswick aspects of the DMSS website, working with the DMSS IT Officer.
  • Shall oversee the DMSS NB Events Calendar.
  • Shall book teleconference equipment necessary for DMSS activities, where appropriate.

DMSS Chairperson
Responsibilities: 
  • Schedule DMSS Meetings
  • Facilitate DMSS Meetings
  • Collect and distribute meeting agenda items and officers reports from DMSS members.

Everest Co-Chairs
Responsibilities: 
  • Procure volunteers from Med 1 and Med 2 and run training for the administration of the Everest Day curriculum
  • Ensure all interested schools are contacted and confirmed for Everest Day; procure sponsorship for prizes and community awareness; contact the media for further exposure of Everest Day and the DMSS to the community.
  • Coordinate the logistics of Everest Day itself (pairing of students, meals, drives, supplies, etc).

Nova Scotia Representative
Responsibilities: 
  • Serve as student representative on the Doctors Nova Scotia Board of Directors of and act as liaison between DNS and the DMSS.
  • Communicate student questions/concerns, with respect to the NS Summer Preceptorship Program, to the Senior Associate Dean of Regional and Rural Medical Education.
  • Represent student concerns to the NS provincial government, particularly with respect to medical education, student debt, and health policy.

PEI Representative

Responsibilities: 
  • Liaisons between students and PEI provincial groups
  • Coordinates recruitment events 
  • Communications provincial concerns to appropriate parties
