Sports and Wellness
The Sports and Wellness Rep involves Dal Med students to balance their busy academic schedules with any kind of physical activity, and to provide lots of opportunities to do so. Med school is a hectic time for everyone. We all know how tough it can be to fit everything into our weekly schedule. It's extremely important to take time for ourselves and forget about school for a little while. To be able to properly take care of our patients in the future we'll have to know how to take care of ourselves. No one wants to burn out half way through clerkship because you didn't learn how to take the odd break from your daily grind. What better way to de-stress than to hit the intramural soccer pitch with your classmates, or run for breast cancer, or try curling for the first time in your life? The Sports and Wellness rep tries to make these things as fun and easy to attend as possible.
Wellness isn't just about sports. If you like to unwind by painting, reading something for fun, spending time with your family, etc. then you are encouraged to de-stress that way. We all have different extra-curricular interests. Close your books once in a while and do something that relaxes you – you'll feel refreshed and be much more efficient when you get back to work!
Learn-to-Play
The objective of Learn-to-Play is for those with extensive experience in a particular sport or activity to lead a session (or multiple sessions) for those who have absolutely no experience or knowledge of this particular sport or activity. The overall goal is to boost confidence and hopefully participation in these activities.
